The Nashua fire chief described Monday's response to a gas leak, explosion and fire as a "complete success," even though three firefighters were injured, because everyone in the building was able to get out safely.

Tragically, a member of the Boonville Fire Department was inside the church when the explosion happened. Five individuals were transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for treatment. Two—one firefighter and one civilian—are in critical condition, while the other three suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The NTSB said it's opening its own investigation into the explosion in Nashua, saying the the incident meets its criteria for a case.
