A rare red warning for “dangerous, stormy” winds has been issued by the Met Office for south-west England, with Storm Goretti set to bring 100mph gusts.

Storm Goretti has left 65,000 homes without power as winds, snow and unrelenting rain are hitting South West England.

The AA urged drivers to take "extreme care" due to the risk of black ice, after nine children were injured in a collision between a school coach and a bus in Reading on Wednesday.

The Met Office has issued a fresh amber warning for "heavy and persistent snowfall" and urged six areas to gather essential supplies.

Low-lying areas could see up to 10cm, while higher ground above 200m may be blanketed with 20cm of snow, with drifting and widespread icy conditions expected due to strong winds.
