A Tesla executive said the company has removed human supervisors for some rides. It comes 10 months after Waymo offered its self-driving competitor.

The company is also currently facing a 30-day suspension of its manufacturing and dealer licenses in California for deceptive marketing about Autopilot's capabilities.

Tesla currently offers a pair of so-called “level 2” partially automated driver assist systems. Autopilot is the older of these, combining Tesla’s adaptive cruise control (Tesla calls this TACC) and lane-keeping assist (Tesla calls this Autosteer).

Tesla owners who want to retain access to features like Autosteer will need to pay for an FSD subscription, or fork out $8,000 before Feb. 14 for lifetime access.

The Austin push is planned for February, insiders told Business Insider. Tesla has been training Optimus in its Fremont factory for more than a year.
