A friend's computer just recently got updated with something for Windows XP. Since then a bunch of work files on a network drive have a shortcut icon next to them and had their extension (.MAT) ...
In XP, I rename the default desktop icons to remove the "My" prefix. Unfortunately, they have a tendency to revert themselves periodically. I've had this problem off and on with different XP installs.
