Because of this, it settles at the bottom instead of rising or spreading out. When a light object (like foil or a small boat-shaped item) is placed on top of this gas, it doesn’t sink immediately. The dense gas below supports it, almost like water does. That’s why it looks like the object is floating on nothing.
