Beethoven composed his Seventh Symphony in 1811–1812 while seeking rest in the Bohemian spa town of Teplice. The symphony premiered in Vienna in December 1813 at a charity concert for soldiers wounded in the Napoleonic Wars. The program also featured his piece Wellington’s Victory, inspired by the earlier defeat of French forces at the Battle of Vittoria.
