A malar rash, AKA butterfly rash, is a red, itchy, or painful rash that appears on the cheeks & bridge of the nose in people with lupus. The rash is shaped like a butterfly & can last days, weeks or more. It can appear spontaneously or after sun exposure and indicates that there is increased inflammation in your body.
