Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) was an Italian opera composer who became one of the most popular and influential opera composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born into a musical family in Lucca, Italy, Puccini was inspired to pursue opera after seeing a performance of Verdi’s Aida.
