Soaring temperatures in Melbourne today have firefighters on high alert today. The city is predicted to reach 38 degrees, while some parts could reach 42. Northern Victoria is under a total fire ban with the Mallee district under extreme fire danger. Some V-line regional trains are running to an altered, extreme heat timetable.
