History of the Great Louisiana Maneuvers

A moment in time... On October 27, 1955, under General Order No. 63, Camp Polk is re-designated as Fort Polk. The 1st Armored Division is moved to Fort Polk, and the largest peace-time maneuvers in west Louisiana since WW2, “Exercise Sage Brush,” held between October 31 and November 15 that same year, begins. The purpose was to train various units in a simulated conventional warfare against nuclear, biological and chemical attacks between US Army and aggressor forces. #AMomentInTime #FortPolkStr
